Frequently asked questions

How do I find the code of a color in a photo?

Add the photo to this page and click the point whose color you want. The page shows that pixel's color as HEX, RGB and HSL. For a more precise pick, use the magnifier, or move pixel by pixel with the arrow keys and press Enter.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is opened and processed only in your browser. It is not sent anywhere and not stored.

How are the dominant colors found?

The image is shrunk, the colors are grouped and the largest groups are shown as the dominant colors. Very close shades are merged into one. It is an estimate, so use it as a starting point for design.

Why can the picked color differ a little from what I see?

The page reads exactly that pixel's value. In photos neighbouring pixels often differ slightly, so even clicking the same spot twice can vary by a unit or two. For the general color of an area, look at the dominant colors.

Which image formats are supported?

Whatever the browser can open: PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, AVIF and more. Very large images are processed at a reduced size on screen to keep things fast.
